CAN: 'Customer crush' groomed Cannabis NB employee to stage robbery

A former Cannabis NB employee pleaded guilty to theft and robbery charges at the start of her trial on Monday, admitting she played a role in tens of thousands of dollars in cash and products being taken from the store.

Jennah Christina Richard, 30, of Riverview, was supposed to stand trial in Moncton provincial court over 10 days starting Monday, but she instead appeared with her lawyer and pleaded guilty. Richard admitted stealing from the Riverview Cannabis NB outlet on May 8, 2024 and robbing the store on June 17, 2024.

She also pleaded guilty to committing public mischief on those dates by misleading police as they investigated the matters. Sentencing was set for Jan. 12, with a pre-sentence report and victim impact statements ordered by the court.

The co-accused in the case, Adam Jeffery Melanson, 41, of Riverview, is wanted on a warrant issued in August by the court when he didn't show up. He's accused of stealing more than $5,000 worth of money and merchandise from Cannabis NB in Riverview on May 8, robbing the store on June 17, carrying a BB gun for a dangerous purpose or to commit an offence, using a BB gun to commit theft and masking his face on both dates.
