NL: €1M demanded from cannabis grower under fire for odor nuisance

Regulators are keeping a close eye on cannabis grower CanAdelaar. Fresh violations have been recorded at the Hellevoetsluis facility, according to a series of reports from the DCMR environmental agency.

Both DCMR and the municipality of Voorne aan Zee now want to collect a previously imposed fine of 1 million euros from the company, which is part of the Dutch government's Closed Coffeeshop Chain Experiment. CanAdelaar can still file an objection and later take the case to court. The grower and regulators have already faced each other in court several times.

CanAdelaar had invested in equipment to curb the persistent odor complaints from nearby residents. Even so, locals say the nuisance has not gone away.
