US (MN): Local dispensaries weigh impact of proposed federal hemp THC restrictions

Minnesotan dispensaries are assessing potential impacts following the bill that ended the federal government shutdown. Buried in that bill are provisions to ban products derived from hemp, including THC drinks. As the industry faces yet another challenge, area shops brace for impact.

Minnesota cannabis law, that passed in 2023, established the regulatory framework for the state's new cannabis industry. Since then, navigating these rules has posed several hurdles for local shops. Jacob Kuch, of Unwind Dispensary in Moorhead, said, "There are already a lot of hoops we have to jump through just to operate this business in general."

He said these businesses sees regulatory challenges firsthand.

"Anytime there's some sort of government get-together, they add another hoop for us, regardless of how relevant it was to what they're doing," added Kuch. Following the country's government shutdown, a bill was signed on November 12 marking the end. In that bill included a provision to ban hemp products.
