NL: Creating a revolutionary cultivation facility that doesn't negatively impact its surroundings

For Q-Farms in Veendam, Certhon sets a new standard: a fully gas-free, high-tech indoor farm that enables year-round premium production. This innovative cultivation facility spans two floors and nearly one hectare, resulting in a fully integrated project. Advanced water, electrical, and climate technologies ensure controlled, high-quality production within a completely closed growing system.

The facility is equipped with four energy-efficient heat pumps and a state-of-the-art closed water system, which together significantly reduce water consumption. With more than 200,000 plants and continuous production, Q-Farms shows that efficiency and large-scale operations can work well together.

Efficient water use
The facility features two "technical water rooms" where water is enriched with nutrients and delivered directly to the plants through an advanced drip system. The closed water system collects both condensate and drain water and reuses it, resulting in far lower water consumption compared to traditional cultivation methods.

Custom-designed layout
The facility includes all the spaces needed for a complete cultivation cycle, from seed to final shipment of the end product. At Q-Farms, this includes 21 flowering rooms, 2 mother rooms, 2 vegetative rooms, 3 propagation rooms and numerous processing areas, all designed and developed according to specific requirements.

Thanks to the advanced Certhon Control System, each room can be managed individually to create an optimal climate tailored to the specific needs of the plants. This precision enables Q-Farms to ensure consistent quality without the use of pesticides.

Optimal use of energy sources
The four modern heat pumps provide both cooling and heating for the facility. All electrical input is used as efficiently as possible, eliminating the need for additional energy sources. Cooling towers and storage tanks located outside the facility provide the flexibility required to optimize all energy needs.

A safe and efficient production environment
The safety and integrity of the cultivation process are ensured through a carefully designed air filtration system. Filtered outside air is brought in under controlled conditions, while used air is purified before being released. This approach minimizes environmental impact while protecting crop quality. Additionally, the cooling units in the rooms are equipped with disinfection modules (UV light) that prevent potential diseases or viruses from spreading.
