Licensed cannabis retailers have an extra few weeks to get inventory ready for the launch of a delayed digital tracking system known as Seed to Sale, state regulators said. The state Office of Cannabis Management sent an email Wednesday night to all licensees announcing retailers have until Jan. 12 to enter all inventory into the Seed to Sale system, led by the company Metrc.
The system will launch in phases starting Dec. 17, according to OCM. The department granted retailers an extension after several raised concerns about meeting the deadline and interrupting sales during one of the busiest times of the year.
"The office, along with Metrc, has been working directly with cannabis businesses throughout the marketplace to implement the seed-to-sale track and trace system," OCM spokeswoman Vanessa Cheeks said in a statement. "After much feedback regarding the transition to Metrc, following the merger with BioTrack, we have pushed back the product integration deadline for retailers to Jan. 12. All licensees must still be credentialed with Metrc by December 17, but this will support retailers ahead of an anticipated holiday rush, while still allowing them to come into compliance. A track and trace system is vital to strengthening New York's cannabis marketplace."
All licensees still must be credentialed in Metrc's Seed to Sale system by Dec. 17, or in less than a week.
