Cannaspire has launched its Cannabis and Hemp Expert Witness and Testing Laboratory Consulting Services, expanding its scientific, regulatory, and litigation support at a pivotal moment for the cannabis and hemp industries.
As cannabis transitions from Schedule I to Schedule III under federal law, stakeholders across the industry are facing increased regulatory oversight, expanded litigation and insurance exposure, and heightened expectations around scientific defensibility—particularly in THC testing, laboratory operations, and compliance.
"As cannabis regulation, litigation, and scientific scrutiny continue to intensify, the industry requires expert analysis that is both technically sound and defensible," said Tracey Kauffman, Founder & Chairman of Cannaspire. "These services position Cannaspire to support attorneys, insurers, laboratories, and academic institutions with clarity, credibility, and confidence at a critical inflection point for cannabis and hemp."
Expert witness services
Cannaspire now provides expert witness testimony and litigation support across a wide range of cannabis and hemp matters, including scientific analysis, regulatory enforcement, economic damages, and operational compliance. Services include hemp versus marijuana differentiation using Delta-9 THC and total THC thresholds; review and authentication of Certificates of Analysis (COAs); evaluation of sampling protocols, analytical methods, and chain of custody; and assessment of laboratory licensing, accreditation, and quality systems.
Additional expert witness services address regulatory enforcement actions, recalls, seed-to-sale record analysis, crop valuation and insurance claims, security and diversion incidents, and forensic review of tracking systems such as Metrc.
"With cannabis moving to Schedule III, colleges and universities can now pursue federal funding for cannabis and hemp research and testing laboratories," said Warren Harasz, Chief Compliance Officer at Cannaspire. "Cannaspire supports institutions from grant writing through full laboratory buildout, accreditation, and compliance—ensuring labs are audit-ready and defensible from day one."
