The German Hemp Association is campaigning against the planned tightening of access to medicinal cannabis. It sees "deep divisions" between the various camps regarding the issue. Within the Christian Democratic Union (CDU/CSU), there are "doubts" about certain aspects of the amended Medicinal Cannabis Act (MedCanG).
The hearing in the Health Committee last Wednesday was actually quite peaceful, as professional associations and experts discussed the amended Medical Cannabis Act (MedCanG). While the pharmacy representatives were divided on the fundamental assessment of the planned tightening of access to medical cannabis , there was considerable agreement, for example, that the ubiquitous advertising for cannabis platforms was "the main problem" in the fight against alleged misuse.
The German Hemp Association (DHV) was also invited. Managing Director Georg Wurth subsequently interpreted the hearing as evidence of the "deep divisions" that still exist regarding medicinal cannabis . Representatives from the German Medical Association, the German Federal Union of Associations of Pharmacists (ABDA), and health insurance companies welcomed the federal government's draft legislation. However, the other side – representatives of the medicinal cannabis industry, patient associations, and cannabis-prescribing physicians – considered the initiative by the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) "counterproductive to medical cannabis care."
