Oklahoma lawmakers are considering two bills aimed at regulating the state's medical marijuana industry by extending the moratorium on new business licenses and limiting the number of commercial grower licenses.
"3143 is just an extension of the moratorium for the marijuana licenses, beginning August 1, 2026, and expiring August 2028," said state Rep. Tim Turner, a co-author of the bills. The first bill, House Bill 3143, seeks to extend the moratorium on new marijuana business licenses, which is set to expire in August this year.
Rep. Bob Culver, vice chair of the Committee on Alcohol, Tobacco and Controlled Substances, announced, "Declare the vote. Seven yay, zero nay."
This bill passed out of committee and was recommended to the Health and Human Services Oversight Committee. The second bill, House Bill 3144, acts as a backup if the full moratorium on licenses is not extended. It proposes limiting the total medical marijuana commercial grower licenses to no more than 2,550.
