The city of Meriden's third and final application to operate a cannabis retailer business was approved by the Meriden Planning Commission Wednesday. A city official said Thursday that the plan was approved following a public hearing in which no one spoke in favor or opposition of the application, which lists Stamford-based Curaleaf Hartford, Inc., and Hamden-based CJC Enterprises, LLC as the owners.
The applicants were not immediately available for comment Thursday. The new business, located at 443 South Broad St., will join Rejoice Dispensary and Zen Leaf. Meriden allows for a maximum of three retail cannabis establishments as the result of a change in zoning regulations several years ago.
The business will operate in the former Green Olive Diner, which closed in November. The 3,800 square-foot building was originally built as a McDonald's with a drive-through window, but the applicants said they had no plans to use it.
According to the application, the business will serve medical and adult recreational cannabis users and the average amount of time shoppers spend in the store will be approximately10 minutes, with a peak hourly rate of 18.9 visitors.
