US (MI): County approves new cannabis grants

Cannabis grants were under the spotlight at the Mecosta County Board of Commissioners' regular meeting, held at 4 p.m., Feb. 17, as the board approved a grant agreement with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

County Administrator Mindy Taylor said that the grant funding comes from the Michigan Medical Marijuana Operation and Oversight grant program, which provides funding to counties for the purpose of education and outreach regarding marijuana use.

The proposed project will use the grant funds to purchase approximately 250 secure lock boxes to distribute to marijuana users throughout the county with the goal of reducing the risk of accidental ingestion or misuse by children, teens or other individuals for whom marijuana is not legally or medically authorized.
