New regulations after inspections are complete

North Macedonia: Health Minister reveals company names whose license got revoked

North Macedonia's Ministry of Health has revealed the names of the 6 company whose licenses got revoked following national inspections of MMJ operations.

The six companies affected are Alphapharm, Green Life, CBD Medplant, Life Plant, Ata Pharm, and Kanabi Dois.

According to the Minister, multiple infractions were identified across those companies, including administrative, infrastructural, technological, and staffing related issues. On top of that, inspections revealed missing or inconsistent documentation, discrepancies between reported and actual quantities of cannabis, and failures to notify the Ministry of Health of operational changes within the legally required timeframe.

The inspections also brought to light dried flower that wasn't stored properly, with unsealed product and storage practices that did not comply with legal requirements. Additionally, they found missing notifications related to production, harvesting, and sales, as well as incomplete documentation and contracts connected to the transfer and sale of dried flower.

The inspection process involves multiple state bodies, including the Ministry of Interior, the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices, the Agricultural Inspectorate, and the State Sanitary Inspectorate.

New regulations coming up
The Minister said inspections will continue at the remaining licensed companies. Once controls are completed at all 43 producers, the government plans to begin drafting a new, stricter legal framework for the medical cannabis sector, aligned with EU directives and intended to address regulatory gaps identified during the review.

The extraordinary inspections were ordered after Serbian authorities seized approximately five tonnes of marijuana in Serbia, which officials said was produced in North Macedonia. In parallel operations, North Macedonian prosecutors and police have seized more than 40 tonnes of cannabis from licensed medical cannabis companies in recent weeks.
