US: Cannabis sales in New Mexico surpass $2B

It has been nearly four years since purchasing marijuana for recreational use became legal in New Mexico. Since then, sales in the state for both adult and medical use have surpassed $2 billion.

The state saw sales cross the $2 billion threshold in November 2025, and combined monthly sales by licensed cannabis retailers in 2025 averaged just over $47 million, according to KRQE News 13's analysis of data from the state's Cannabis Control Division.

Despite reaching the $2 billion milestone, cannabis sales of adult-use and medical-use dropped in 2025 compared to 2024. Nonetheless, sales in 2025 surpassed those in 2023, which was the first full year of recreational marijuana sales in New Mexico.

Since legalization in April 2022, adult-use sales have accounted for the majority, at around $1.4 billion, compared with medical-use sales of approximately $583 million. Medical-use sales have remained relatively consistent over the years, while adult-use sales have fluctuated, the data showed.
