US (PA): State to get tougher on cannabis, hemp regulations

State Sen. Dan Laughlin introduced an amendment to Pennsylvania Senate Bill 49 to align the state's cannabis regulations with federal standards.

The proposed legislation seeks to create the Pennsylvania Cannabis Control Board and ban several hemp-derived products.

The update follows the passage of United States House Bill 53-71 in November, which redefined hemp and prohibited many derived products at the federal level.

Laughlin's amendment applies these federal criteria to state law to address what he described as regulatory gaps in the current market.

The legislation specifically targets the sale of cannabinoids such as Delta-8, Delta-10 and THCA. These products have grown in popularity but often exist in a legal gray area between industrial hemp and regulated marijuana.
