A new polytunnel for strawberries has arrived at EZ Grow Farms last year. It's the AirVent. During the development of this AirVent polytunnel, special attention was paid to the increasing robotization in the sector, to growing in warm and humid conditions, and to the most efficient use of labor.
The design of the new polytunnel greenhouse features clever details. For example, it incorporates 110 cm of gutter ventilation along the entire length, and uses a newly developed and patented Vento film. This tunnel film consists of a perforated layer at the ridge with an unperforated layer over it. This allows warm air and excess moisture to escape, creating natural ventilation from around 18 degrees Celsius. "Thanks to this film, the greenhouse ventilates itself, and you'll notice it immediately when you're inside", says Jelmer Pool with Rovero.
The AirVent greenhouse has a gutter height of 2.5 to 3.2 meters and is a full 440 centimeters wide, compared to alternatives that go up to 330 cm. With this, the developers are responding to the increasing automation in soft fruit cultivation, which is only exacerbated by the limited availability of skilled personnel. "You want to work as easily and efficiently as possible. Thanks to the wider roof, an additional gutter can be installed in each trellis. This means less work when spraying or using UVC technology."
Recently Rovero visited the AirVent and was pleased to see that it is still standing strong without any damage, even after the harshest winter in 15 years. The AirVent successfully endured extremely low temperatures, heavy winds, and significant snow loads. "It is a great result to see that the structure remains solid and still looks excellent. We are looking forward to a fruitful season ahead."
