This update reflects the data reported under the Cannabis Tracking System Order. Data is subject to revision as verification and validation occur on an ongoing basis. Please note that, except in rare instances, Health Canada generally does not make estimates for reporting parties that have not submitted their information into the Cannabis Tracking System.

The ratio of total packaged inventory to retail sales varies by product type among federal licence holders, distributors, and retailers, indicating how many units are held in inventory for every unit sold; for dried cannabis, the ratio is 3.0 to 1, meaning three units are in inventory for every one sold, while edibles have a slightly higher ratio of 3.8 to 1 and extracts sit at 3.3 to 1, suggesting relatively similar inventory levels across these categories, whereas seeds stand out significantly at 12.7 to 1, indicating a much larger stockpile relative to sales, and topicals fall in between at 6.2 to 1, reflecting a moderate level of inventory compared to demand.

The total licensed area for cannabis operations includes 1,536,415 square metres of indoor growing space and 376,327 square metres dedicated to processing, alongside a significantly larger outdoor growing area of 748 hectares, equivalent to approximately 7,482,300 square metres, reflecting the scale and diversity of production environments; this data is collected by Health Canada under the Cannabis Tracking System Order, which came into force on October 17, 2019, to monitor and regulate cannabis activities across the industry.
