US (MN): Indoor cannabis processing business in Alexandria approved

An indoor cannabis processing and packaging business – Cannaworld, LLC – received a conditional use permit from the Alexandria City Council on March 23. The building is being used for retail activities and office space and is located in a general business zone at 503 North Nokomis, on the northwest corner of the intersection with Kenwood Drive.

The operators of the business are Joshua Sinning and Steve Gieder. "Our commitment is not just to a business, but to maintaining the high standards and reputation of the city we call home," Sinning said in a letter to the planning commission and city council. "We intend to run a quiet operation that is a respectful and invisible neighbor to the surrounding business district."

The permit was issued with four conditions – a license from the Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management ; signage that meets city code; one parking stall per employee; and any exterior lighting to be hooded and directed away from the public street.

Cannabis manufacturing must take place in an enclosed, locked facility that's used exclusively for the manufacture of cannabis products, creation of hemp concentrate, creation of artificially derived cannabinoids, creation of lower-potency hemp edibles, or creation of hemp-derived consumer products, according to the Office of Cannabis Management.
