Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway announced her office has issued 33 cease-and-desist letters to unlicensed retailers accused of selling intoxicating cannabis and marijuana products outside the state's constitutional framework.
The enforcement action is part of an ongoing effort to address the illegal retail drug market and protect consumers from potentially harmful products. The businesses identified are accused of selling adulterated and deceptive items marketed as marijuana in violation of the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act and the state's Article XIV constitutional provisions governing cannabis.
"These unlicensed dispensaries are peddling dangerous, deceptive, and intoxicating cannabis and marijuana products. A storefront and a sales counter do not magically convert an illegal drug operation into a legitimate business," Hanaway said. "My Office is prepared to use the full extent of our authority to hold bad actors accountable."
According to the Attorney General's Office, cease-and-desist letters were sent to 18 businesses in the St. Louis region, 13 in the Kansas City region, and two in the Springfield region. Each is believed to be selling intoxicating products in violation of Missouri law.
