Another chapter in the messy legal saga surrounding Arkansas' medical cannabis business licensing is playing out in Saline County Circuit Court. That's where former dispensary owner Josh Landers is suing his previous lawyer, Scott Poynter of Little Rock, over disputed legal fees.
Landers, who lives in Saline County, has alleged that Poynter improperly kept $138,695 in proceeds from the 2024 sale of a Heber Springs dispensary, Big Fish of North Central Arkansas LLC, which operated as Enlightened.
"I'm 100% confident in the work that I have performed, and we will respond to the lawsuit appropriately," Poynter told Arkansas Business.
Poynter retained the money as his fee for representing Landers and attorney Marshall Wright in a separate lawsuit claiming they were set up as figurehead owners of the dispensary, according to Landers' complaint filed in February. The figurehead ownership arrangement deprived Wright and Landers of cannabis sales profits while saddling them with huge tax bills, the earlier lawsuit claimed.
