Cannacruz, a local marijuana dispensary, is relocating its cultivation operations from Monterey County to Watsonville due to extreme regulations.
Grant Palmer, co-owner of Cannacruz dispensaries, said, "They threatened to shut us down permanently over very small things." Palmer explained that the stringent regulations in Monterey County have forced them to move their cultivation operations.
"We just realized it was too big of a risk to keep operating in Monterey. So we had to, kind of pack up in the middle of the night," Palmer said.
Palmer noted that minor issues could trigger expensive and time-consuming processes with the county. He recounted an incident where a light switch not included in a blueprint required multiple permits and tens of thousands of dollars to correct.
