The joint MCPIR and Cultivation for Compounds research tour is returning to its usual position on the calendar. On June 8, the day before GreenTech Amsterdam opens at RAI, the two Dutch cannabis research consortia will host a full-day medicinal cannabis event across two horti research sites.
The morning program runs at MCPIR in Bleiswijk, and the afternoon moves to CfC's facilities in Honselersdijk. Lunch is provided, and bus transport from RAI Amsterdam is available for attendees traveling from the city.
Sonny Moerenhout, founder of the consultancy Cultivators, has been involved in organizing the event and will be one of the guest speakers. "MCPIR and CfC do the same kind of work, and to outsiders, they may seem competitors," he says. "But this event is about showcasing what Dutch horticulture is doing for cannabis. It's better to do that together than separately." Cultivators has also recently launched the Leafy Hydroponics Consortium, where infrastructure upgrades are underway. New LED lights, screens, and high-pressure fogging are being integrated into the setup. Sonny points out that the consortium ran trials with the existing configuration before transitioning to the new one, with climate system improvements continuing as part of a multi-year program.

The experience and knowledge gained over years in cannabis, and now with the research prowess of the consortium, Sonny says he's bringing all the latest on advanced cultivation techniques. "Cannabis cultivation moves at an unimaginably fast pace, with price pressure on growers running equally fast. It's crucial to show growers how to tackle challenges with knowledge and info coming from the horti hotbed of the world." Other than Sonny, at the MCPIR event, also Mexx Holweg, PhD from Wageningen University, will take the stage to talk about lighting. Sonny says the addition is aimed at drawing more growers and licensed producers into the conversation. "With Mexx, we can bring even more growers and LPs for interactions, with a clear focus on high-tech growing."
The audience for the June 8 event typically includes medicinal cannabis producers, technology suppliers, and scientific collaborators from across Europe and beyond. Registration is through MCPIR and CfC directly; organizers can be reached at [email protected]
