Last summer, Curaleaf retrofitted a 72,000-square-foot warehouse in the Coeymans Industrial Park to make it suitable for large-scale manufacturing of medical marijuana.
It's one of 10 state-approved grow facilities statewide, and Albany County's first. And it just so happened to open in a year when New York was expanding its limited medical marijuana program to cover opioid use disorder — a move that forced Curaleaf to ramp up production faster than anticipated.
On Thursday, to celebrate its one-year anniversary in Coeymans, the company gave media a behind-the-scenes tour of its operation. The two-hour journey followed the cannabis plant from seed to sale, and exposed the manufacturing realities that keep medical marijuana prices so high for New York patients.
