US (IL): City introduces cannabis regulations

The City Council voted to pass along to the Plan Commission a proposed zoning ordinance establishing rules for recreational cannabis businesses Monday, and a public hearing will take place next month.

During the last few months, cities and counties have drafted zoning regulations and local tax increases for recreational cannabis, which becomes legal for those 21 and older starting Jan. 1.

The Plan Commission will review the ordinance, hold a public hearing and make a recommendation, which will go to the council for a final vote likely in early December. The Commission is slated to meet at 6 p.m. Nov. 21 at City Hall.
