Back in 1861, Plano was home to the reaper, a farm machine for grain harvesting. Now a new harvester for a new crop may be coming to the city. A marijuana cultivation growing center proposal was presented to eight aldermen at the Plano City Council meeting.
Nicholas Mauricio of Yorkville said he is looking for one to two acres of land on Eldamain Road to build a 5,000 square foot maximum state-allowed indoor center. Previously he had searched in Yorkville.
The Yorkville City Council has not passed a zoning ordinance at this point. Staff had proposed cultivation centers at 2,500 feet but during their meeting earlier this month, some aldermen thought setbacks proposed were too restrictive and a consensus agreed to vote on a shorter distance; 500 feet from parks and schools and 250 feet from residential.
