A large marijuana facility got the green light to grow in New Bedford. The building is in the New Bedford Business Park. "We have a very large commercial kitchen. We have 70,000 square feet of cultivation," said Tim Shaw, Chief Operation Officer of MariMed.
Apart from equipment, the cultivation rooms are empty now, but will soon be filled with budding marijuana plants, after the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission gave its stamp of approval Monday to MariMed/ARL Healthcare to start growing.
Workers on Tuesday were testing out equipment in the kitchen, where the company will produce cannabis infused edibles. The business bought the building two years ago for nearly $7 million and Shaw said it has pumped another $7 million into it.
The company expects to have 60 workers at the facility.
