"As of today, exactly one year has passed since we started setting the ground for our industrial site. It has been a work-intensive year, which gave us a lot of satisfactions, and our team got bigger and more skilled. We achieved many goals, and even more lie ahead," says Sergio Martines, Canapar CEO, with regards to the 2019.
"Over 2019, we have invested more than 17 million euros, coming from private investors led by Canopy Rivers. We had cultivated one thousand hectares of industrial hemp in South Italy, involving 54 companies," he continues. "We received more than 250 requests from growers who were interested in growing hemp. 84 Italian companies participated in the construction of our industrial site."
"We harvested 2.500 tons of hemp biomass, and built a plant for the processing of hemp. On top of that, we also built an automated stocking plant for biomass traceability. And finally, we have almost finished the installation of a KPD extraction plant."
He continues: "Even though numbers are on our side, we are still disappointed regarding the regulatory stall on hemp regulations, which slows down the hemp economic growth in Italy, and does not allow a whole agricultural sector to compete with the rest of Europe."
"This is why we ask to the Prime Minister Giseppe Conte and to the Minister of Agriculture Teresa Bellanova, and to all the members of the Italian Parliament to work hard to improve such a promising sector. We would like to invite them to visit us in Ragusa, where we have one of the biggest extraction plants in the world. For this 2020, we are looking to bring part of our cultivations in Bulgaria, where the bureaucracy is more capable to seize the opportunity of an investment, within this current ever-evolving global context."
