US (CA): Humboldt County Growers Alliance opposes 23-acre Sun Valley cannabis cultivation project

The Arcata Land Company LLC and Headwaters have proposed a 23-acre cannabis cultivation project on the existing Sun Valley flower farm site in Arcata.

The project is set to be located between 27th street and Foster Avenue, west of the Arcata, in an unincorporated area of Humboldt County in the Arcata Bottoms.

The project cites 22.9 acres of commercial cannabis cultivation with 770,938 sq. feet of which will be light-deprivation cultivation, 147,457 will be mixed-light cultivation, and 83,040 will be ancillary nursery space.

This potential pot project has many community members worried. Some of the most staunch criticism though, has come from the Humboldt County Growers Alliance. They released a comment on Mar. 15 opposing the proposed project unless they "Amended to a size consistent with the land use principles in Humboldt’s cannabis ordinances." Simply put, they think the farm is too big.
