Steve White came to Hancock on Wednesday with some updates about growing his company’s medical cannabis business. “What we are effectively doing is tripling the productive space” in the Harvest Health and Recreation growing facility in Hancock, he said of a building project the company is tackling.
White, co-founder and CEO of Arizona-based Harvest, estimated that the company employs roughly 50 people in Hancock now. “That will go above 100 when we are in full production,” he said, noting that the construction work will take about six months.
White spoke during Wednesday’s meeting of the Hancock Town Council. The town holds 5% ownership in Harvest DCP of Maryland, an arm of Harvest Health and Recreation. The company has been growing and processing medical cannabis in two town-owned buildings.
In a related move concerning one of those buildings, council members Wednesday agreed to repay a grant to the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, given the building’s use in the medical cannabis industry.
