According to the advertisements of Cannabis Medicinal San Juan Sociedad del Estado (CanMe San Juan), the first half of September will be key to continue its research and production project. The company stated that during the course of this week 4,500 seeds from the United States will be arriving in the country, of five varieties with a strong presence of CBD . Once they have the material, the germination and sowing stage will begin in the three production models proposed by the three companies authorized to work on the property. If everything goes as expected, the harvest would be in January and the final product would be obtained by the end of August 2022.
Meanwhile, on September 14, CanMe will communicate the results of the second call for companies seeking to participate in the medical cannabis research and production project. Currently, there are nine initiatives that are going through the evaluation process. The proposals come from local, national, and foreign companies.
Currently, three local private companies are working to develop the infrastructure required for research and production. These are the sanjuanines Mediplant and Green Health , together with CANN 4.0 , from national capitals. Next week, when the new companies that will be incorporated into the scheme planned in the Campogrande del Acequión property are reported, not only productive projects but also jobs are added. CanMe estimates that between 8 and 15 qualified workers could be employed in the different stages of the production process, according to the implemented system. Likewise, the future projection is greater than 2,400 jobs.
The governor of San Juan Sergio Uñac recently visited the property of the state company and assured that the province is an "ideal place for growing cannabis." He announced that they will also work on the construction of a quality control laboratory that will be under the orbit of the provincial government and the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA). "This industry promises to be an important generator of sources of work and foreign exchange for the province and the country," said the president. He also added that "it is a strong bet."
The property of the San Juan State Society is located in the town of Campogrande del Acequión, in the department of Sarmiento. It has 160 hectares planned for agronomic research in a first stage; and, later, the production of medicinal products derived from the cannabis plant. The objective with which it was created is to guarantee the patients of San Juan equal access to a safe product according to the treatments they require.
The pillars on which the CanMe project was built have to deal with four issues: the creation of a scientific-technological pole; cooperation between the public and private sectors; economic development for the diversification process in the productive matrix that the province has been promoting for decades; and, finally, an aspect that the company highlights at every opportunity: legal security. This last point is not minor, given that the experience of the cannabis sector in other countries has been somewhat chaotic in this regard. For its part, Argentina is still defining a regulation for the medical cannabis and industrial hemp industry.
