US (KS): Lawmakers seek solution to confusion over delta-8 and medical cannabis

Lawmakers are weighing how to dive into an increasingly contentious debate over the allowability of a class of certain cannabis products, known as delta-8, that have drawn legal scrutiny from local law enforcement across Kansas.

Delta-8 products are on shelves across the state, but an opinion from Attorney General Derek Schmidt notes that only some of them are allowed to be sold under Kansas law.

Legislation in the Kansas House would clarify which delta-8 products can be sold, though those in the cannabis industry are divided on how great the effect actually would be for consumers.

Meanwhile, the prospects for full-blown medical cannabis in the state Legislature appear uncertain, though a top legislator says he will introduce a scaled-down version in the Kansas Senate in the coming days.
