“Company clothing is part of the operation in terms of hygiene, appearance, and comfort”

Oftentimes, a pest or pathogen outbreak in a greenhouse happens because of humans.

After all, we are the biggest carriers of said pests, which can get on someone’s clothes and thus potentially inside a greenhouse. Sanitation and hygiene are two of the main pillars of CEA, and as such, growers’ clothing and uniforms need to be in pristine condition.

However, the increasing energy costs have impacted this aspect of greenhouse horticulture too, adding up to the overall cost of the operation. Add to this the increasing costs of materials, and sourcing the right clothing can be a quite daunting task. This is where Greenwear comes into play. “Company clothing is part of the operation in terms of hygiene, appearance, and comfort,” says Roland van Gulik from Greenwear. “At the same time, one needs to consider sustainability and cost reduction also when it comes to washing and sanitizing said clothing. This is exactly what we address with our services.”

The Greenwear concept works by carrying out tailored delivery of a collection with the corresponding virus-free washing programs. “All known viruses are washed out of clothing at low temperatures,” he continues. “And a grower realizes major savings compared to regular clothing and washing processes. Bluntly put, our concept wouldn’t cost a grower €0.57 per employee per hour – which is € 1185.60 per year – but only €0.31 (€ 644.80 per year). This ensures that a grower saves 45% of the cost for this service.”

But how do they do that? “Our way of washing, combined with the right machines and the Greeenwear collection with its unique properties, ensure carefree processing of hygiene components within your company,” Roland concludes. And, of course, we are experienced. We did 78 projects, and most of them were a success. Others will be tweaked until they are.
