Microplastic-free greenhouse coating introduced

After years of research, development, and testing, Houweling Horticulture has successfully developed a liquid coating that is 100% microplastic-free. Bright Eco-Coating is being introduced at GreenTech Amsterdam. It is the first biodegradable shading agent that is free from microplastics and provides protection against high temperatures and excessive sunlight. Since Bright Eco-Coating is entirely organic, it can be removed from the greenhouse without the use of chemical cleaners. This not only helps preserve the environment but also allows growers to save labor and material costs. Bright Eco-Coating can be safely applied as a shading agent in all crops, particularly in organically grown produce.

"Sustainability and quality have been important driving factors in the development of Bright Eco-Coating. We are proud to offer growers a solution that optimally protects their crops from extreme heat and excessive sunlight without burdening the environment," says Jaco de Vries, Director at Houweling Horticulture. "In line with our expertise in sustainable packaging, the Houweling Group has chosen to package Bright Eco-Coating in buckets made from recycled material. We will also provide a return service for all packaging materials at our points of sale, ensuring no materials are left behind in the environment." This product aligns perfectly with the vision of the nearly 100-year-old family business, which focuses on sustainable horticultural products, personal protective equipment, and sustainable packaging.

Completely biologically removable without a cleaner
The benefits of Bright Eco-Coating are numerous and relevant for both ornamental and vegetable growers. "In addition to being 100% biodegradable and free from microplastics, the most important advantage of our coating is that it is completely biologically removable. The product wears off naturally, leaving the greenhouse clean after an average of 120 days. The second biological method is brushing. Without a cleaner or other cleaning agents, the remaining Bright Eco-Coating can be removed at any desired time. In addition to the environmental benefits, this also means that the grower saves the cost of a cleaner and the labor of application," enthusiastically explains Ronald de Vreede, Product Manager at Houweling Horticulture.

"Furthermore, Bright Eco-Coating is fully suitable for organic cultivation and provides excellent protection for any crop. It is liquid, easy to apply, and offers long-lasting protection for all greenhouse surfaces: glass, film, and polycarbonate."

Introduction of Bright Eco-Coating at GreenTech
During GreenTech Amsterdam 2023, which will be held from June 13 to 15, Bright Eco-Coating will be presented to the public for the first time. At booth number 05.238, the Houweling team will be ready to showcase the product and answer any questions about Bright Eco-Coating.
