“Without an optimal drying process, compounds can easily evaporate along with their value”

Are you losing money while drying hemp flowers? “The popular and valuable active compounds found in the flower of the hemp plant are fragile. Without an optimal drying process, these compounds can easily evaporate along with their value. For high-grade CBD flowers of optimal quality, we have a fitting solution for every grower,” says Tom Pankras of Hemp-drying.com.

The installations of Hemp-drying.com dry the flowers in an enclosed space where the conditions are controlled and set for the best drying process. “This enclosed space allows for more control over the environment and more efficient use of energy. To prevent the loss of the active compounds of the flower, like CBD and terpenes, our installation dries the product at a low temperature. To make sure your products do not spoil, the flowers are dried quickly with dehumidified air of a maximum of 20°C, guided by our control software,” Tom explains. “50 years of experience in drying allows Hemp-drying.com to find the best suiting drying solution for every problem.”

Within a building, a conditioned drying cell ensures optimal drying with minimal use of space, the company explains. “The installation is tailored to the available room. The cell is conditioned in its entirety to the desired temperature and humidity to create drying capacity. The airflow is distributed per layer of boxes and extracts moisture from every individual box. Part of the air is expelled outside and conditioned again to the set properties for drying. This ensures the hemp flowers are always dried optimally. Sensors detect the conditions of the drying cell. By means of our ABC software, these conditions are guided in 5 stages to end up with the perfect moisture content with the maximum amount of CBD and terpenes intact.”

For the need of a plug-and-play installation with a lot of flexibility and scalability, a conditioned drying container is the perfect fit, according to Tom. “It contains all the components needed to create the optimal drying conditions. The container is filled with boxes and receives a conditioned airflow which rises through the flowers per box. With each passing of the airflow through the flowers, moisture gets extracted and emitted out of the drying container. This is guided by the conditions in the container, which are measured by sensors of the incoming and outgoing air. Once the incoming air and outcoming air have the same humidity, this means all of the product has reached the desired moisture content at that specific stage of drying.”

“The air is conditioned every time it has passed through the product,” Tom says. “It dries the flowers gradually in stages. The flowers can be placed in open boxes or can be put in drawers of 8 centimeters high with 12 drawers per box. These are continuously aerated with cool and dry air. This extracts moisture from the product, which gets carried off. Drying the hemp flowers can take place in whichever time desired, as quickly as the product permits or as long as you prefer for optimal quality. This ensures your product ends up at the optimal moisture content, with minimal loss of active compounds.”

ABC-software drying stages

ABC-software for control and automation
According to Tom, the optimal temperature for drying while preserving cannabinoids and terpenes is around 18 to 20 degrees Celsius. “Using our software system, the entire drying process can be optimized to your wishes and the needs of your product. All relevant variables for the drying program are customizable, insightful, and analyzable with our ABC software. The perfect drying program can be saved as a repeatable preset. At the end of the 5th drying stage, the flower is dried to the desired moisture content of about 10%-12% with the CBD and terpenes perfectly intact. All of this together ensures that you get the most value out of your harvest.”
