Jeff Hayward, MIIM Horticulture:

“It behaves like a synthetic, while providing the best nature has to offer”

“The cannabis industry is on the cusp of a new green revolution. The most important technological developments of the next few decades will undoubtedly be rooted in a more biological approach to growing,” says Jeff Hayward, Organic Mechanic at MIIM Horticulture. The company started with the aim of finding solutions in nature to address the challenges faced by today’s cannabis growers. “We are a small and passionate team made up of plant scientists, researchers, and cannabis industry professionals working to develop tools that can help growers maximize crop yield and quality. We understand that the natural solutions we bring to the industry must be appropriate for modern controlled environment growing and precision agriculture. In other words, we need to offer tools with the same predictability, consistency, and repeatability that growers typically expect from synthetic nutrient products.”

“Simple and effective”
The company currently offers two products. The first one, MIICROBIAL MASS, is an organic biostimulant product that uses beneficial bacteria to increase plant mass at every stage of growth. “This unique microbial enhancer is a simple and effective way to improve overall plant health and significantly increase dry weight yields,” Jeff says. “Safe and effective with any nutrient program, MIICROBIAL MASS provides excellent results in both organic and synthetic cultivation systems. This versatile product runs clean through fertigation systems and will not lead to biofilm buildup in waterlines or drip emitters, providing an excellent option for large-scale and commercial cultivators who rely on automated watering.”

“As MIICROBIAL MASS is a clean microbe product, it is uniquely well-suited to modern growing practices. Typical biological products contain active microorganisms as well as sugars, humates, and often clays and stabilizers,” Jeff explains. “These types of additives can make a real mess of water lines and clog drip emitters and manifolds. With MIICROBIAL MASS, we have solved this problem by using dormant bacterial spores in a holding solution formulated to run clean through commercial fertigation systems. Growers love it because it behaves like a synthetic while providing the best that nature offers.”

Increasing crop value
“To put it in terms a legacy grower might use, our other product ChitoSal is all about ‘nose’ and ‘bag appeal.’ It uses natural plant effector molecules to trigger a defense response within plants,” Jeff explains. This leads to increased trichome density and resin production, augmented and enhanced terpene profiles, and greater overall potency. “ChitoSal triggers this response very efficiently, so we are able to dramatically improve cannabis quality metrics with only a handful of applications over the course of a crop. Therefore, it is a simple and effective way for growers to improve the quality of their final product. As we like to say, it leads to greasier, gassier, stickier, stankier buds.”

As today’s cannabis market is all about quality, ChitoSal is a simple and effective way to improve quality, Jeff says. “It is more effective and efficient than other similar products. It really only needs to be applied four or five times during a crop cycle to bring about major gains in quality metrics. This represents a huge opportunity for growers to increase the value of their crops without significant increases to the costs associated with inputs and labor.”
