“No one has to risk their life ever again by walking through the thin gutter on a greenhouse roof”

By using a liquid spraying 50kg-drone, the team with Drohnen Agrar Service (DAS) aims to reduce work and costs for its consumers. The company only started in June 2023 and always envisioned its drone being used for greenhouse shading. Thanks to the efforts of managing director Sebastian Hylewicz, only two weeks after DAS received its drone, the company managed to test greenhouse washing from the air.

Thin layer of coating
Sebastian is enthusiastic about the results of these greenhouse washing tests: "The customer was really surprised about the result as compared with applying it per hand," he says. When asked about the advantages of using a drone, Sabastian comes up with a list: "The drone can spray a thin layer of coating that dries fast on glass. We fly our drone in narrow lines above the greenhouse so that every spot on the roof is covered and overflown multiple times. In this manner, we ensure a good amount of coating and an even and fully covered greenhouse roof."

In addition, the drone can spray both small parts and big areas. "And we can also divide big greenhouses into multiple fields to ensure that every part has the right amount of shading. This may be useful when a greenhouse grows different plants." The amount of liquid or shading agent can be adjusted according to the customer's wishes.

However, he stresses that the very advantage of using a drone is the safety aspect: "No one has to risk his life ever again by walking through the thin gutter on a greenhouse roof."

Last year, in 2023, DAS sprayed 10 hectares of greenhouse coating and cleaned 10 hectares of greenhouse coating, all done with ReduSol and Lumiforte coatings. Sebastian says: "We should be able to apply nearly every coating on the market, but we only applied ReduSol from Lumiforte because every customer asked for it. We are very happy with Redusol because the thin layer we are applying is water-resistant, and that is important for growers." When it comes to 2024, he points out they will make efforts to increase the amount of the company's Greenhouse shading and cleaning activities.
