US: Connecticut testing lab sued in Massachusetts for inflating THC numbers

A Connecticut cannabis testing lab is being sued in Massachusetts with a rival lab claiming their products are not as potent as claimed. Analytics Labs is one of eight laboratories named in the lawsuit, filed last month in Massachusetts Superior Court by MCR Labs. Analytics Labs is one of two cannabis testing labs operating in Connecticut. Analytics Labs did not return a request for comment.

Analytics Labs has not yet filed a rebuttal to allegations in court and no hearing date has been scheduled as of Friday, according to court records.

The suit alleges that the eight named laboratories fraudulently report inflated THC content and alter tests to report fewer contaminants, in an attempt to obtain more clients.

"Because multiple labs ... are willing to engage in these unlawful and unscrupulous practices, the Massachusetts cannabis industry is rife with a practice commonly known as 'lab shopping,' where cultivators determine which labs provide the most favorable results (regardless of their empirical validity) and engage those labs for compliance testing contracts and business relationships," according to the complaint.
