US OH): Ascension BioMedical expands with new grow facility

Ascension BioMedical is upgrading its capabilities with the construction of a new 28,000-square-foot facility and renovation of an existing 19,000-square-foot adjacent facility in Oberlin, Ohio. Once complete, the campus will significantly expand the company's cultivation capacity and operational capabilities, supporting continued growth in the region.

The development includes a 28,000-square-foot, two-story cultivation facility and a 19,000-square-foot cultivation facility tenant improvement within a pre-engineered metal building. The campus will support efficient, large-scale production with modern systems and specialized environments tailored to cannabis cultivation.

"This expansion represents a new era for Ascension," Ascension BioMedical CEO Fadi G. Boumitri said. "We are building one of the most efficient and high-quality cultivation facilities in Ohio, designed to deliver an immediate increase in quality and capacity and provide long-term sustainability as the market evolves."

The new facility will feature nine flower grow rooms, two vegetation rooms and two dedicated mother rooms, supported by advanced specialty lighting totaling approximately 640 grow lights with the ability to increase to approximately 1,280 grow lights. Additional features include state-of-the-art, cannabis-specific exterior air handler units, an F-1 automatic sprinkler system and full-height demising walls to support operational separation and efficiency.

The project also incorporates modern infrastructure elements, such as a conventional steel structure with a high-performance roof system, elevator installation, mezzanine space and drive-in access points to streamline logistics and daily operations.

Ascension BioMedical is partnering with ARCO National Construction, an industry-leading design-build general contractor, to deliver the project. The scope includes completion of a partially built structure along with new construction and tenant improvements across the campus, ensuring a cohesive and fully optimized cultivation environment.

"Ascension is excited to partner with ARCO on this project," Boumitri said. "Their reputation in complex construction speaks for itself. They have cannabis facility experience, and they've already proven to be a highly capable and collaborative partner."

"Projects like this require a deep understanding of both the technical demands of cultivation environments and the importance of speed-to-market," said Paul DiGiacobbe, Business Development, ARCO National Construction. "Our team is focused on delivering a high-performance facility that supports Ascension BioMedical's long-term growth and operational goals."
