Celebrating five years of cultivation and tens of thousands of patients served

Texas Original planted its first cannabis seeds on Oct. 31, 2017. The company is celebrating five years of successful harvests that have impacted the lives of tens of thousands of Texans.

Texas Original’s latest milestone follows a series of expansions and new product launches, including opening Houston’s first permanent medical cannabis pickup location, debuting the state’s first fast-acting CBN gummy, and adding a fourth temporary pickup location in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

“When we planted those first seeds, I hoped we were on the precipice of something extraordinary. Just a few short months later—after undergoing our rigorous testing and quality assurance process—those seeds had grown and transformed into high-quality, life-changing medicine for Texas’ very first medical cannabis patients,” said Morris Denton, CEO of Texas Original. “Five years later, with the hope becoming a reality, we are more committed than ever to leading and transforming Texas through the power and truth of medical cannabis. More and more people are realizing the benefits of medical cannabis, and more and more people deserve safe and legal access to this medicine. Hopefully, with more expansion on our horizon, I look forward to serving our patients and advocating for a medical cannabis program the great state of Texas deserves.”

In the last five years, Texas Original has:

  • Completed more than 90 harvests that yielded tens of thousands of pounds of high-quality medical cannabis.
  • Served more than 25,000 patients across the state of Texas.
  • Advanced the scientific understanding of medical cannabis as it relates to PTSD patients.
  • Pioneered industry-leading research into cannabis cultivation.
  • Developed proprietary cannabis strains—Waterloo and Bluebonnet—cultivated and processed entirely in Texas for Texans in collaboration with the company’s Medical Advisory Board.

In 2023, Texas Original will open its state-of-the-art, vertically integrated cultivation facility in Bastrop, Texas. The new, large-scale facility will include a hybrid greenhouse for plant cultivation, manufacturing labs for extraction, processing and refining, testing labs, packaging, dispensing, distribution, and delivery logistics. The facility’s innovative hybrid greenhouse will enable Texas Original’s cultivation team to capitalize on natural sunlight while adhering to state regulations limiting licensed medical cannabis production to take place only indoors.

“Our new facility in Bastrop is the first of its kind in Texas and will be among the best cultivation facilities in the overall cannabis industry,” said Jason Sanders, director of cultivation for Texas Original. “We have set a standard for plant quality that combines industry-leading research with strategic guidance from our physician partners to ensure Texans receive a superior, consistent experience with our cannabis medicine.”
