The New York Cannabis Growers and Processors Association is rebranding itself as the Cannabis Association of New York, as the group has expanded into representing multiple parts of the cannabis supply chain.
Allan Gandelman, the group’s president, and other founders launched it nearly four years ago to advocate for growers and processors. However, membership has expanded and now includes retailers, delivery services, and ancillary businesses, Gandelman said. That’s why it makes sense to operate under the name Cannabis Association of New York (CANY), he said.
“A lot of people that are coming to us now are people that are involved with all aspects of the supply chain,” Gandelman said. “We wanted to represent all of those people.”
The group’s membership has grown exponentially over the past few years, starting with five members and a lobbyist in the fall of 2018, and growing to about 450 members today. About 200 of those members joined in the last eight months, according to Gandelman.
