Gartenbau-Versicherung is expanding its insurance offerings for protected cultivation

Technology coverage now also available for polytunnels

Protected cultivation is a crucial component of stable, high-quality production. Unfortunately, however, vandalism is a common occurrence in this sector. For example, polytunnels that have been deliberately damaged are not uncommon. This represents a significant financial burden for businesses. Companies no longer have to bear this risk alone. Gartenbau-Versicherung is expanding its offerings and now provides equipment insurance for polytunnels.

"We expect that businesses producing in polytunnels will welcome the new offering. We know from experience that many of our members struggle with the problem of vandalism," reports Kai Schneider from the Product Management team at Gartenbau-Versicherung. For example, unauthorized entry into the facilities often leads to destruction, both on a large and small scale. "We specifically took precisely these types of damage scenarios into account when designing the coverage," adds David Mittendorf from the Product Management team.

Insurance coverage against vandalism and more
In addition to vandalism and sabotage, the scope of coverage for the new insurance policy includes the breakage of technical equipment, the failure of measuring, control, or safety devices, and impacts such as lightning strikes on electronic components and replacement units. With this, Gartenbau-Versicherung now offers a comprehensive all-in-one package for insuring polytunnel facilities. Businesses can now fully insure these valuable weather protection systems against hail, storms (including natural hazards), fire, and—this is the key innovation—now also against technical risks.

"Incidentally, the crops themselves can be insured through the solutions offered by Vereinigte Hagel, with whom we have been cooperating for over 30 years. Together, we provide optimal coverage for the protected cultivation of fruits, vegetables, and specialty crops," summarizes Kai Schneider. "This allows us to offer businesses a truly comprehensive insurance concept for their weather protection systems" adds his colleague David Mittendorf.
