Google is launching a new pilot program in Canada to allow ads for cannabis-related products and services.
Beginning August 25, 2025, and running for up to 20 weeks, the program is designed to test user interest in cannabis ads and help inform potential future policy changes.
Until now, Google has prohibited cannabis businesses from advertising on its Google Play platform.
The pilot will apply only to Google Search and cover specific cannabis-related products and services that are legally permitted in Canada. While Canadian federal law continues to impose strict limits on cannabis marketing, companies are allowed to provide brand and product information, an opening they may now be able to explore through Google Ads.
