California's legal cannabis market generated $311,089,042 in sales in April, bringing the state's year-to-date total to roughly $1.21 billion, according to data from the research firm Headset. This resulted in around $180 million in tax revenue.
The April total follows $310,443,862 in January, $277,545,874 in February and $306,342,409 in March. Combined, licensed cannabis retailers in California have generated $1,205,421,187 in sales through the first four months of 2026.
Flower remained the state's top-selling product category in April, with around $96 million in sales. Vapor pens followed closely with $89 million, while prerolls accounted for $57 million. Edibles brought in $38 million, with concentrates accounting for $15 million. The remaining sales came from other categories, including beverages, capsules and topicals.
The average price per gram of cannabis flower in California was $8.95 in April, while concentrates averaged $16.35 per gram. California voters legalized adult-use marijuana in November 2016 through Proposition 64, allowing adults 21 and older to possess up to one ounce of marijuana and up to eight grams of concentrates. The state's first licensed adult-use marijuana stores opened on Jan. 1, 2018. Marijuana purchases are subject to the state's 15% cannabis excise tax, along with applicable state and local sales taxes.
