Nexsel Tech is an Indian lighting company deeply grounded on R&D. “Indoor farming is changing in India,” Vishal Bhosale, founder of Nexsel Tech, says. “This especially after COVID. Because of supply chain disruptions, urban farms have been working more because they had to compensate for what was missing from the many open fields we have here.” At the same time, there are challenges to indoor and urban farming. “You need quite an investment to start and run such an operation,” Vishal continues. “And one of the biggest expenses is lighting.”

To address that, Vishal has founded Nexsel Tech to develop optimum spectrum LEDs that would reduce the energy consumption of an operation as well as its carbon footprint. “Our vision is to be involved in any project globally, where plants are growing under lamps,” he says. To better support growers with their light, Vishal and Nexsel have developed a full-spectrum to better drive the growth of a given plant.
“For instance, we are very active in tissue culture, seed companies, but also in medical crops. Here, giving plants the proper light color supports the development of those secondary metabolites necessary to make medicines.”
But of course, one can’t utilize the different parts of the spectrum without knowing exactly what the plant wants. “That is why we have developed good light recipes, especially for tissue culture & vertical farming operations,” Vishal continues. “This is possible because we do a lot of in-house research. Last year only, we spent 30% of our capital on R&D.” Such a big R&D effort is carried out primarily for two reasons. “We are constantly looking to improve the quality of our lights, especially when it comes to the spectrum.”
On top of lights, Vishal and Nexsel have developed a new growth chamber. “We have created this for R&D purposes,” he explains. “The growth chamber has 16 growing rooms, and you can control each and every grow parameter. For instance, you can set a certain spectrum to see how plants react or set different spectra over the same plants to see the difference in their growth. Thanks to this, we can better fine-tune our light recipes, and thus provide growers with a truly all-inclusive solution.”
